Operators of commercial motor vehicles like our members should be aware that Operation Safe Driver Week, a major commercial vehicle enforcement initiative led by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA), is scheduled for July 13–19, 2025, across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
This year’s focus is on reckless, careless, or dangerous driving, including:
• Speeding
• Distracted driving
• Following too closely
• Impaired driving (drugs/alcohol)
• Aggressive or inattentive driving
What Drivers Can Expect
During this weeklong enforcement push: Law enforcement will be pulling over commercial and passenger vehicles for unsafe behaviors. Drivers may receive warnings or citations on the spot.
Last year, more than 11,000 vehicles were stopped, resulting in 1,583 citations and 2,439 warnings issued to commercial drivers.
This will also be the first national CVSA campaign since the lack of English proficiency was reinstated as an out-of-service violation on June 25, 2025. Drivers who cannot communicate in English may now be placed out of service.
Operation Safe Driver Week is a reminder to prioritize safe driving practices every day—not just during enforcement periods.
Next enforcement event: The CVSA’s Brake Safety Week inspection effort is scheduled for August 24 — 30, 2025.
