The CDL medical card waiver was set to expire on September 30, 2020, but has been EXTENDED by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) after all.

For drivers whose medical certification was valid on February 29, 2020, and expired on or after March 1, 2020, but before June 1, 2020, the requirement is waived until October 31, 2020

For drivers whose medical certification expired on or after June 1, 2020, the requirement is waived until December 31, 2020.

This FMCSA extension will soon be added to the Texas Department of Public Safety (TX DPS) site in the upcoming days.

TX DPS is processing new medical certifications daily but unofficially estimates that tens of thousands of medical certifications are still due in Texas. If everyone waits until the new waiver deadline(s), please note a backlog could take place.

Drivers who have an updated medical certificate can submit it to the Texas Department of Public Safety by email to CDLMedCert@dps.texas.gov or by fax 512-424-2002.
