What You Need to Know About the 24-Hour Emergency Response Number?

For the last 23 years, TPGA has partnered with Professional Emergency Resource Services (PERS) to give members access to professional 24-hour emergency response services at a significantly discounted rate.

Under 49 CFR § 172.604, companies offering hazardous materials for transportation must provide an emergency response telephone number on shipping papers. Under DOT regulations, the number must be monitored while the hazardous material is in transportation and answered by someone knowledgeable about the material and emergency response procedures, or by someone with immediate access to that expertise. A number that requires a callback does not meet the requirement.

The Texas Railroad Commission LP-Gas Safety Rules also require a 24-hour emergency number to be posted at certain licensee-operated LP-gas installations, including certain cylinder filling/service stations, self-service dispenser areas, cylinder exchange facilities, and qualifying bulk storage installations.

PERS is not an answering service. Its response center is staffed around the clock by personnel who can assist companies and emergency responders during hazardous materials incidents.
