The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) has designated August 25-31, 2024, as this year’s Brake Safety Week. This initiative focuses on roadside commercial motor vehicle inspections and aims to enhance brake safety awareness and compliance.
Inspection and Enforcement
During Brake Safety Week, CVSA-certified inspectors will conduct thorough checks of commercial vehicles, emphasizing brake systems and components. Vehicles found with brake-related out-of-service violations, which "account for the largest percentage of all such violations during roadside inspections," will be taken off the road until the issues are resolved.
This year, inspectors will particularly focus on the condition of brake linings and pads. Problems in these areas may lead to vehicle violations and negatively impact a motor carrier’s safety rating.
